Pars Today- The police of Turkey had clashes with the demonstrators supporting the arrested mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu.

The mayor of Istanbul, as one of the main opposition figures and rival of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of corruption and terrorism. According to Pars Today, demonstrations against this measure of Erdogan government have continued in several provinces and demonstrators have called for release of Ekrem Imamoglu.

 

Imamoglu interrogated

On the other hand, al-Mayadeen TV channel reported that the interrogation of the arrested mayor of Istanbul ended on Saturday and he is waiting for issuance of the verdict. According to this report, the Turkish Public Prosecutor has requested imprisonment for Imamoglu and the court is supposed to issue its decision soon; whereas Imamoglu has strongly rejected all the accusations.

 

X network suspends several user accounts of opponents in Turkey

Meanwhile, X social network has suspended the personal accounts of the opposition figures in Turkey. It is said that these accounts belong to the leftist groups and students who have actively taken part in anti-government demonstrations since Imamoglu's arrest on March 19.

 

Hundreds of protesters detained in Turkey

The Turkish interior ministry announced on Saturday that 343 people were detained during the Friday demonstrations in several cities to protest Imamoglu's arrest. This ministry also added that the detentions were carried out to prevent "public disorder". The Turkish interior ministry has warned that the authorities of the country will not tolerate chaos and provocative measures.

 

Turkish CB intent to prevent Lira fall

Daily Financial Times wrote that as a result of the economic crisis after the arrest of Erdogan's main rival, the Central Bank of Turkey has injected nearly $12 billion to the market to prevent the fall of Lira value.

 

Primary election and emergency session of greatest opposition party

Meanwhile, the Republican People's Party (CHP) of Turkey, as the top rival of the Justice and Development (AKP) ruling party, will hold primary election on Sunday to introduce its candidate for the upcoming presidential election. The emergency session of CHP will also be held on April 26 in order to prevent appointment of a substitute for the mayor of Istanbul.
