Trump, Gorbachev; Will history be repeated?
Pars Today- American weekly Newsweek, in a report, reviewed special approaches of President Donald Trump.
Newsweek, in a report on Tuesday, pointed to the innovations that Trump has created in the American foreign policy and wrote, "In the first 100 days of his presidency, he has used every opportunity to change the American relations with other regions of the world." According to Pars Today, the Newsweek report makes it clear that Trump has several times accused NATO of financial abuse of the US and criticized the amount of money spent by Washington in Ukraine.
The report adds that this criticism resulted in a tough squabble in February with the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump accused him of "gambling to wage WWIII" and reminded him that he is not "thankful" of the US aid to the country.
The report continues that, on the one hand, the Trump administration has accepted peace talks with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin while, on the other hand, he has ushered in a tariff war against his old ally, Canada- and also against other countries- and keeps stressing that Canada is the 51st state of the United States.
Newsweek's report, quoting from "Barry Scott Zelen", specializing in Arctic geopolitics, international relations and the tribal foundations of world order at the University of Connecticut, wrote, "This period of Trump's presidency, after Mikhail Gorbachev, the last USSR leader, when the country reached the climax of the [communism] system, is among the most exciting beginnings of a new presidency, but the hazards which Gorbachev finally tolerated not only didn’t reform the Soviet system but also led it to disintegration. Will we witness such a thing in the US, too?"
