Pars Today – Following the Israeli regime’s aggressive attacks against Iran, former U.S. diplomat and Washington’s former special representative for Iran acknowledged Israel’s inability to counter Iran’s missiles.
According to Pars Today, former U.S. diplomat and Washington’s former special representative for Iran, Robert Malley, in an interview with French journalist Alain Gresh, acknowledged Israel’s inability to counter Iran’s missile power, pointing to the ineffectiveness of the Israeli regime’s defense systems.
Malley said that Israel lacked effective interceptor missiles capable of repelling Iran’s attacks, and that Operation “True Promise 3”, launched in response to Israeli aggression, demonstrated that Iran’s missiles and drones were able to penetrate Israel’s multilayered air defenses and hit strategic targets.
The former U.S. diplomat noted that these attacks, which took place amid indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, inflicted heavy casualties in the occupied territories and forced the Israeli regime to retreat and accept a ceasefire.
Iran’s response to the attacks
Malley added that in response to U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities, Tehran launched Operation “Glad Tidings of Victory” (Besharat-e Fath), targeting the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar — a decisive move that demonstrated Iran’s deterrent power and readiness to respond to any foreign aggression.
The former U.S. envoy on Iran also commented on the foreign policy approach of President Donald Trump, saying that, unlike Joe Biden, Trump is willing to engage in talks with various regional actors — including Iran, Hamas, and even Syria — even when such negotiations run counter to Israel’s interests. According to Malley, this approach represents both a strength and a weakness of Trump’s foreign policy.
Malley’s remarks underscore that Iran’s missile capability has played a decisive role not only in the military sphere but also in diplomacy. The Israeli regime’s inability to confront this capability, he said, has reshaped regional equations and brought the war to a halt — a reality acknowledged even by American and Western diplomats.
