UN Economic Committee adopts resolution on Palestinian sovereignty
Pars Today – The Economic and Financial Committee of the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution affirming the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources in the Occupied Territories.
According to Pars Today, quoting Mehr News Agency, the Economic and Financial Committee of the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution emphasizing the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources in the Occupied Territories.
The resolution calls on the Zionist regime to end the exploitation and plundering of these resources.
The resolution was proposed by the Group of 77 plus China and was adopted with an overwhelming majority of 152 votes in favor, including positive votes from all European Union member states and Canada.
In contrast, only eight countries — the United States, Nauru, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Paraguay, Argentina, and the Zionist regime — voted against it, while 12 other countries abstained.
The resolution emphasizes that the Geneva Conventions on the protection of civilians during wartime and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights fully apply to the occupied Palestinian territories.
The resolution also refers to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, which affirms the illegality of the policies and continued presence of the Zionist regime in the Occupied Territories.
The resolution further recalls that in 2004, the International Court of Justice also declared the construction of the Israeli separation wall in the occupied Palestinian territories to be illegal, describing it as a discriminatory act that violates international law.
