Pars Today – The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security said that fertilizer prices in Europe have risen by 70% since 2024 due to a sharp increase in energy costs.

According to Pars Today, citing Shafaqna, Christophe Hansen announced during a press conference in Strasbourg that: “The higher the energy costs, the higher the fertilizer prices. They are now 70% more expensive than in 2024.”

The European Commission, in response to rising fertilizer prices, has presented an action plan to support farmers. However, it stated that it does not intend to provide additional funding to farmers under this plan.

European Union leaders stated that rising prices are solely the result of the crisis in West Asia. At the same time, the European Commission has previously imposed tariffs on fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus.

European farmers’ unions have rejected this measure, describing it as a blow to EU farmers who are already in an unfavorable position and are being forced to reduce production.

They added that the situation is being further exacerbated by the uncontrolled export of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU countries, as well as the long-standing agreement with South American countries (Mercosur), which could also flood European markets with cheap agricultural goods produced in violation of strict European standards.
