Iran unveils world’s first cancer surgeon-assist device
Pars Today – An Iranian knowledge-based company has succeeded in developing, for the first time worldwide, a CDP cancer surgeon-assist device—a system that can identify cancer cells during breast cancer surgery with 90% accuracy.
Mohammad Hossein Yazdi, the sales manager of an Iranian knowledge-based company, said on Saturday that the cancer surgeon-assist device, designed and built for the first time in the world, is being introduced as an assistive system for breast cancer surgery. He explained that in centers equipped with frozen section pathology—a method that shortens tissue preparation and speeds up pathological diagnosis to inform the surgeon more quickly—the device can be used as a complement, while in centers without such facilities it can serve as an effective surgeon-assist tool.
According to Pars Today, he added that the device delivers its diagnostic results within 15 seconds, displayed on the monitor as negative, suspicious, or positive outcomes.
Yazdi emphasized that the diagnostic accuracy of this technology has increased from about 70% with the frozen pathology method to around 90%, which plays a significant role in reducing the likelihood of residual cancer cells and, consequently, lowering the risk of disease recurrence after surgery.
Guterres: The endless cycle of violence must be broken and a ceasefire in Gaza fully implemented
In another development, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Saturday—without condemning the continued aggressions by the Israeli regime against the oppressed people of Gaza—that the endless cycle of violence must be broken and that a ceasefire in Gaza must be fully implemented.
Lula da Silva: Military action in Venezuela would be a humanitarian disaster
Amid continued U.S. threats against Venezuela, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva warned on Saturday, at the opening of the MERCOSUR South American bloc summit, that any military action in Venezuela would amount to a “humanitarian disaster.”
This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with NBC News conducted on December 18, said he could not rule out the possibility of war with Venezuela.
Zelensky’s four-point proposal to end the Ukraine war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has put forward a four-point proposal to end the war with Russia. Speaking on Saturday, he said the key contentious issues regarding an end to the conflict include territories under Russian control, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, security guarantees to prevent renewed Russian attacks, and compensation for the damage inflicted on Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia’s conditions for halting the war include recognition of the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula and the four regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson as part of Russian territory. Moscow has also called for Ukraine’s non-membership in NATO, a reduction of Ukraine’s military capabilities, and the lifting or easing of sanctions against Russia.
U.S.: Ukraine should prepare for the continuation of the war in 2026
In this context, Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), said in an interview with Fox News that a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow may not be reached by the end of this year, and that Ukraine should prepare for the continuation of the conflict into 2026.
He added that this was why the €105 billion European Union loan was approved—to cover the costs of sustaining the current situation. “As we move into winter and there is still no peace agreement, the fighting will continue,” he said.
