UN, EU welcome ceasefire in Lebanon
Pars Today - The United Nations has welcomed the establishment of a ceasefire between Lebanon and the Zionist regime.
A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon began on Thursday (early Friday morning Lebanon time). A ceasefire that according to Esmail Qaani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, is the result of the resilience of the Lebanese resistance and Iran's support.
As reported by Pars Today citing IRNA, United Nations spokesman Stéphane Dujarric announced that UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes the establishment of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
Dujarric said on Thursday: "The Secretary-General of the United Nations says that we obviously welcome any steps that lead to an end to the fighting and the suffering on both sides of the Blue Line." Dujarric added that the United Nations, through its political and peacekeeping missions, remains ready to support these efforts and emphasizes the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, which should ultimately lead to a permanent ceasefire and a long-term solution to this conflict.
He stated that the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon continues her mediation efforts with the parties, adding: "As we have always said, there is no military solution to this conflict."
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, also welcomed the establishment of a ceasefire between the Israeli regime and Lebanon and announced that Europe continues to demand respect for Lebanon's sovereignty. She said: "This development brings a sense of relief because this conflict has so far claimed many lives."
