Pars Today – The European Union, after months of internal disagreements, has imposed sanctions on several key organizations supporting extremist and violent settlement activities by the Israeli regime in the West Bank, as well as on their leaders.

According to Pars Today, Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, speaking on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday, announced in a post on X: “Done! Today, the European Union is sanctioning the main Israeli organizations involved in supporting extremist and violent settlement activity in the West Bank, along with their leaders.”

He added: “These very serious and intolerable actions must be stopped immediately.”

Although details of the sanctions have not yet been released, today’s decision is significant because the European Union has, over recent months, faced an impasse in forming a unified position against violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank due to internal disagreements among member states.

Some European countries had called for stronger action against settlement expansion and attacks by settlers on Palestinians, but the lack of consensus at the EU level had slowed the approval of sanctions.

Kaja Kallas had previously said ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels that she expected member states to reach a political agreement on sanctions against violent settlers.

Experts believe the new European sanctions are a limited and delayed response to the rising violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, which has intensified in recent months alongside increased occupation policies by the Israeli regime, displacement of Palestinians, demolition of homes, and expansion of settlements.
