Pars Today - Coinciding with the UK government's claims about the need to increase defense spending amid the transatlantic rift and the ongoing war in Ukraine, official and parliamentary reports are exposing financial corruption, sexual misconduct, equipment theft, and deep supervisory weaknesses within the country's Ministry of Defence.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the UK House of Commons Public Accounts Committee has warned in a new report that the Ministry of Defence faces the risk of corruption and economic crimes amounting to approximately £1.5 billion per year, but has failed to show the necessary focus and leadership to combat it.

According to the report, over the past four years, the UK Ministry of Defence has spent an average of £5.7 million annually to identify and combat fraud and economic crime, yet the return on these efforts has been very low.

One of the main areas of weakness in the UK Ministry of Defence is the field of defense contracts and procurement. According to the report, the Ministry spends tens of billions of pounds annually on military contracts, and the bulk of corruption has been identified in this area.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, chairman of the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee, sharply criticized the Ministry of Defence's performance, stating that the department has failed to protect public resources and, in addition to £1.5 billion in corruption, has lost another £1.6 billion on cancelled projects.

Alongside financial corruption and sexual misconduct, the issue of equipment theft and loss reveals another aspect of management weakness within the Ministry.

In recent years, London has tried to position itself as a leading player in rebuilding European security, supporting Ukraine, and increasing NATO's military readiness. However, official and parliamentary data shows that within the UK's defense structure, problems have accumulated that are inconsistent with the grand claims about military power, deterrence, and readiness.
