U.S. diesel prices hit record high amid war

Pars Today – The price of diesel in the United States surged sharply to $5.85 per gallon, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, the American Automobile Association (AAA) said the average price of a gallon of diesel jumped sharply on Friday to $5.85, breaking the previous record set in 2022.

Since the start of the war with Iran, farmers, truck drivers, and transportation companies have been forced to bear significantly higher diesel fuel costs.

Eric Millegar, a professor of economics at the University of California, Davis, said: “Diesel is a key input in virtually all of the goods we consume.”

The surge in diesel prices is driving up production costs in industries heavily dependent on the fuel, including fishing, agriculture, and construction. The issue is a double blow for farmers, as the war has also driven up the cost of fertilizers.

According to Axios, the record was broken even though the harvest season for corn and soybeans, the largest U.S. agricultural crops and a period of peak fuel demand, has yet to begin.
