Student demonstration in Chile turns violent

An unauthorized demonstration ended with multiple arrests in Santiago on Tuesday, after police were ordered to break up the protest.

The police acted early and with a degree of force in order to prevent demonstrators from carrying out any kind of direct action.

At least 12 arrests were made with water cannons being used to disperse the crowd.

The march called on the government to revisit the proposed 'labor statue for youth employment'.

The new law will loosen protections currently afforded to young people in favor of employers.
