Being short-staffed and overworked, UK National Health Service’s (NHS) staff on maternity wards not following national guidance has been putting babies at risk of dying from common treatable infections. The Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB), a national safety watchdog, has warned in a report that NHS staff on maternity wards are sometimes faced with conflicting advice on treating women who are positive for a group B streptococcus (GBS) infection.
