Today, we study the status of servitude of God in the monotheistic viewpoint.

As previously mentioned, in the monotheistic standpoint, the rights of sovereignty, lawmaking, and creation belong to God Almighty. Also, the servitude of God is another right of the one and only creator of the world. In other words, in the Islamic culture, and based on the teachings of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), everyone should be servitudes of God and refuse to worship fake deities, in any form or shape.

Prophet of Islam has invited people to worship the creator of the world, and to be the servant of God. This invitation was also made by all other prophets, who were duty-bound to stand firm against the worship of idols and to prevent the deviation of mankind form the true path, based on logical and enlightening approaches.

The 25th ayah of Surat al-Anbiya in Holy Quran, notes: We did not send any apostle before you but We revealed to him that ‘There is no god except Me; so worship Me.’

The divine prophets, in order to fulfill this mission, and to encourage people’s servitude of God, were honored to be the sincere and honest servants of God and believed that servitude of God is the only possible way for attainment of spiritual growth.

Undoubtedly, the secret behind the close bond of divine prophets with God lies in their strong belief in servitude of God. They fully complied with God’s instructions. Prophets has also taught their true followers that the most important sign of servitude of God is full abidance by God’s instructions. God Almighty, in order to show Prophet of Islam’s servitude toward God, addresses the Prophet, noting: Say, ‘Indeed I have been commanded to worship Allah with exclusive faith in Him, and I have been commanded to be the first of those who submit to Him.’

Upon the worship of God and compliance with His instructions, man attains an in-depth insight, dominates his thoughts, commands his power of imagination, and is not deviated from the righteous path. Moreover, one of the prominent achievements of those, who are servants of God, is that some of the facts of universe are revealed to them by God, leading to the spiritual elevation of these servitudes of God. The true manifestation of this fact can be observed in the heavenly ascension of the Prophet of Islam.

The 1st ayah of Surat al-Isra in Holy Quran notes: Immaculate is He who carried His servant on a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose environs We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our signs.

In the ascension of the Prophet of Islam, God revealed some of the realities of the universe to the Prophet. Meanwhile, for those, whose outlooks are limited to the material world, it is difficult to accept these facts, such that they might even deny these realities. God Almighty dismisses this viewpoint strongly by noting: The gaze did not swerve, nor did it overstep the bounds. Certainly he saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord.

Upon contemplation, we realize that one of the reasons behind the appointment of divine prophets was their purity and servitude of God. The Prophet’s servitude of God was treasured to an extent that it gained further importance than his prophet hood, before God Almighty. In order to prove this fact, one can also mention Jesus who spoke out in cradle to defend the chastity of his mother, Mary.

The 30th ayah of Surat Maryam in Holy Quran notes: He said, ‘Indeed I am a servant of Allah! He has given me the Book and made me a prophet.’

In this ayah, Prophet Jesus initially introduces himself as the servant of God and then states his prophet hood. On this basis, when Holy Quran wants to introduce the prominent trait of the Prophet of Islam, it initially states his servitude of God, and then states: Whereat He revealed to His servant whatever He revealed.

The divine prophets were pioneers and prime examples of servitude of God. All of them were instructed by God to establish the culture of servitude of God in their communities and to call on people to worship God.

The Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) continued the path of prophets and was a role model in servitude of God. He also called on his true followers to only serve and worship God to attain spiritual elevation and growth.
