Today we speak of other miraculous aspects of Holy Quran.

Ayahs of Holy Quran, which refer to the precise order of the universe and creation of earth, mankind, and other creatures, call on mankind to ponder and contemplate. Holy Quran draws the attention of mankind to the grandeur of the world of creation and reminds mankind that there are innumerable signs of God Almighty in the universe. Thus, if man ponders properly, he is bound to have faith in the one and only creator of the world and the omnipotence of God.

190th and 191st ayahs of Surat Al-I’Imran note: “Indeed in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those who possess intellects. Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth and say, ‘Our Lord, You have not created this in vain! Immaculate are You! Save us from the punishment of the Fire.”

Today, we study some of the prime examples of the miraculous aspects of Holy Quran. One of the miraculous aspects of this divine book is its reference to the force of gravity between planets. Holy Quran has pointed out this fact in several ayahs.

For instance, the 2nd ayah of Surat Al-Rad in Holy Quran notes: “This is Allah who raised the heavens without any pillars that you see, and then presided over the Throne. He disposed the sun and the moon, each moving for a specified term. He directs the command, and elaborates the signs that you may be certain of encountering your Lord.”

In these ayahs, God discusses the reasons for maintenance of monotheism, and presents the signs of God in the world of creation, while  compelling mankind to precisely observe the movement of planets, in order to realize the omnipotence of God. This ayah notes Allah raised heavens without any pillars that you see. This means that heavens have pillars which are invisible. This statement delicately refers to the forces of gravity and repulsion which have kept planets in their place like highly powerful but invisible pillars.

This ayah has disclosed a scientific fact which no one was aware of at the time of divine revelation of Holy Quran and a thousand years after it. This is because in that phase in time, the view of Ptolemy in astronomy was supported by the global scientific circles. According to this view, heavens were not suspended and each planet rested on another one. Meanwhile, nearly a thousand years after the divine revelation of Holy Quran and as the result of progress of the science of astronomy, it was discovered that planets are moving in their orbits, without resting on anything, and the only factor which keeps planets in their orbits is the balance which is maintained between the forces of gravity and repulsion. As the result of this balance, planets continue to move in their orbits. The balance between the forces of gravity and repulsion keeps planets on their orbits like an invisible pillar.

The 41st ayah of Surat Fatir refers to the precise and orderly movement of earth and other planets in their orbits, without any derailment from their path or any collision between them.

This ayah says: “Indeed Allah sustains the heavens and the earth lest they should fall apart, and if they were to fall apart there is none who can sustain them except Allah. Indeed He is all-forbearing, all-forgiving.”

Today, it has been revealed to all that planets have been moving round their orbits for billions of years without any minor derailment or resting on anything else. Earth has also revolved round itself and the Sun for billions of years due to the balance maintained between the forces of gravity and repulsion. This ayah notes Allah sustains the heavens and the earth lest they should fall apart. This fact was revealed by Holy Quran in an era, in which people imagined earth to be flat and fixed in its location. Such individuals assumed that they stood on a vast and flat plain, and never thought of what this vast plain rests upon. Meanwhile, the statement of this ayah, which points out Allah sustains the heavens and the earth lest they should fall apart, shows that planet earth has nothing to rest on; is not connected to anything; and is suspended in space.

This ayah also reminds that God is the ultimate ruler of heavens and earth. In other words, God has created and maintained the universe with prudence.

The creator of the universe has placed all planets on their orbits, and has balanced their forces of gravity and repulsion so that they would continue their orbital movements, without any collision. Furthermore,  God has placed earth’s atmosphere like a solid shield to protect the lives of creatures.

The collision of other planets with earth or a possible derailment of planet earth from its orbit would result in a major catastrophe.

God has created planet earth in safety so that it would be a peaceful habitat for humans and living creatures.
