Welcome to our weekly program “Path towards Enlightenment” in which we present you a fluent and easy-to-understand explanation of the ayahs of the holy Qur’an. We start from where we left you last Friday and here are ayahs 6 and 7 of Surah Saba:

“Those who have been given knowledge see that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth and [that] it guides to the path of the All-Mighty, the All-Laudable.”

“The faithless say, ‘Shall we show you a man who will inform you [that] when you have been totally rent to pieces you will indeed have a new creation?”

If you might recall, in the previous ayahs of this Surah that we explained to you last week, spoke of those who not just deny the Day of Resurrection but also deceive others by misleading them concerning the revelation of God. The ayahs that we have recited to you mean to say, those who have been given knowledge ponder on the wordings of the holy Qur’an and realize the truthfulness. They acknowledge the fact that the right method for achieving divine guidance is paying proper attention to the ayahs of the holy Qur’an.

At the advent of Islam, some of scholars of other creeds, such as the Jews and Christians, who had diligently read their own scriptures, met the Prophet Mohammad (Blessing of God upon him and his progeny), and after discussion with him, putting aside prejudice and pre-judgment, became Muslims. History bears witness that in every era and geographical place, those scholars who overcome prejudice and diligently study the holy Qur’an by proper contemplation on its ayahs, have testified to its truthfulness of Islam, and become devout Muslims.

As the next ayah means to say, at the same, there are persons totally devoid of faith and who have closed their eyes, ears, and minds, to all facts and realities, to the extent that they mock at the Prophet and God’s Words in the holy Qur’an by making fun of the eventuality of the Resurrection Day when all will be raised to life in their original physical state even after their bones had become scattered dust.  These persons of retarded minds, who think they are very clever, say: How is it possible for those rotten bones and the scattered dusts that the winds has blown its atoms in different directions, will one day come together and become alive again in their original form?

These intransigent disbelievers seem to forget that at the beginning before creation and birth, we were all some separate scattered particles, since every drop of water in our body had lied in a different part of the earth. Then, in the same way that Allah gathered them at the beginning to create human beings and facilitated their physical birth, He is also capable of resurrecting them in the original form, ages after their death and decay.

From this ayahs we learn that:

  1. Unlike the view of those who consider religion the outcome of people’s ignorance, conscientious scholars and thinkers have throughout history contemplated to discover the truthfulness of Islam.
  2. The path the Prophets blazed out for the guidance of mankind is indeed the source of dignity and pride for the faithful.
  3. Intransigent disbelievers, instead of using their God-given intellect to see facts and realities, misuse their brains and tongues to ridicule the missions of the Prophets of God and the eventuality of the Day of Resurrection.

Now we listen to and read ayahs 8 and 9 of Surah Saba:

“Has he fabricated a lie against Allah, or is there a madness in him?’ Rather those who do not believe in the Hereafter languish in punishment and extreme error.”

“Have they not regarded that which is before them and that which is behind them of the sky and the earth? If We like, We can make the earth swallow them, or let fall on them a fragment from the sky. There is indeed a sign in that for every penitent servant.”

The Arabs, whose retarded minds failed to see the manifest truth of Islam, used to say that the Prophet (God forbid) is either fabricating a lie against God or has gone mad, otherwise how a sane person believe and preach in the eventuality of the Day of Resurrection?

In response to the illogical claims of the pagan Arabs, God Almighty means to say: The Prophet is neither a liar nor a madman, but it is you who have gone astray and do not accept the words of truth, on the assumption that denial of the Resurrection will make you safe from Divine wrath.

The disbelievers fail to understand every day a resurrection is unfolding before our eyes in the world of nature and in the dead lands that come alive with rainfall by sprouting green vegetation. It is a Resurrection that if it did not exist, the life of this world would be meaningless and empty. And, finally, it is a Resurrection the denial of which is equivalent to the denial of Power, Justice, and the Wisdom of the Lord.

In continuation, God means to say to these intransigent pagan Arabs: have you not looked at the earth and the sky which have been created with such power and grandeur by God? This grand sky, with all its wonders, with all these fixed stars and planets, and the systems governed over them; and also this globe with all its wonders and kinds of living creatures and its blessings and merits are the most expressive reasons to the Power of the Creator.

Do you really have doubt in God’s power that you deny Him? Does He not have the power to cause an earthquake and make the earth swallow you? Or drop stones from the sky and destroy your house? Is the One Who has power over all these affairs unable to bring back man to the world of life and living after death?

Some persons may have seen or heard of the fall of some aeroliths from above atmosphere, or as the result of falling rocks from the mountains because of thunder bolts, or volcanoes and the like.

Any sane person knows that the occurrence of these affairs is possible in any time and in any place. If the earth is calm and the sky is safe and sound for us, it is because of the Power and command of Allah.

How can we deny God’s ability in Resurrection while we are under His power? Or how can we escape from the realm of His Government?

We may have seen or heard of the fall of some aeroliths from above atmosphere, or as the result of falling rocks from the mountains because of thunder bolts, or volcanoes and the like.

From these ayahs we learn that:

  1. Some accept acknowledge God as the Creator of the universe but fail to understand His Power and Responsibility regarding Resurrection and Divine Justice.
  2. Disbelief in the hereafter is the source of deviations and it leads to more misguidance. That is why the deniers of Resurrection are always in a kind of worrying anxiety about a painful punishment, while the believers in Resurrection count death as a door to the lasting world and a means for breaking the cage of this life and being delivered from this prison.
  3. Belief in Resurrection gives peace of mind and tranquility of heart. It helps them endure difficulties, and instill the spirit for donation, devotion, and self-sacrifice.
  4. Pondering in the glory of the creation both strengthens faith in the Creator of the world and faith in the eventuality of resurrection.
  5. Those who are powerless vis-a-vis natural disasters such as earthquakes and storms, how can they escape the divine punishment?
