  • Araghchi: BRICS must take the lead in reforming global governance

Pars Today – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, speaking at the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, rejected economic sanctions and unilateral coercive measures as tools of pressure against independent states, and called for enhanced South-South cooperation and the empowerment of regional organizations.

Addressing the Summit on issues such as strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial cooperation, and artificial intelligence, Araghchi underscored the need for structural reforms within the United Nations.

He criticized the UN Security Council’s inaction in the face of violations and threats to peace, attributing it to the selective and destructive approach of certain member states.

Araghchi called for advancing South-South cooperation, empowering regional organizations, and promoting dialogue among nations as a counterbalance to hegemonic narratives. /IRNA
