Lula to Trump: World doesn’t need an emperor

Pars Today – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has sharply responded to US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose an additional 10% tariff on BRICS member states.

Speaking at a press conference following the second day of the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Lula stated: “The world has changed, and it doesn’t need an emperor.”

He emphasized that global trade should not be solely dependent on the US dollar and called for the establishment of alternative systems to reduce this dependency.
In response to a question about Trump’s tariff threat, Lula said: “The BRICS countries are a group seeking new ways to organize the global economy—something that clearly unsettles some.”
