Pars Today – Hugo Shorter, the UK ambassador to Tehran, was summoned by Alireza Yousefi, assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe at Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, in response to baseless claims by senior British officials blaming Iran for the alleged incident at Fairford military base, UK Ambassador to Tehran Hugo Shorter was summoned on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by Alireza Yousefi, assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe at Iran’s Foreign Ministry. Iran’s strong protest over Britain’s irresponsible and destructive approach toward the Islamic Republic was conveyed to him.

Yousefi categorically rejected the British government’s baseless allegations against Iran, stressing that British officials could not evade accountability and their international responsibilities for participating in the US and Israeli regimes’ military aggression against Iran, as well as for hosting anti-Iranian terrorist groups and operatives for an extended period, by deflecting blame and making unfounded accusations against Iran.

Condemning Britain’s irresponsible actions as part of an anti-Iran campaign, which he said were all contrary to the UK government’s international legal obligations, the director general for Western Europe at Iran’s Foreign Ministry stressed that the British government must provide evidence and documentation for its allegations against Iran concerning the alleged incident at Fairford base as soon as possible. Otherwise, the Islamic Republic of Iran would seriously reconsider bilateral relations, and the British government would bear responsibility for the consequences.

The UK ambassador said he would convey the matter to his country’s officials.
