Iran’s Foreign Minister: It’s time for inhumane sanctions to be recognized as crimes against humanity
Pars Today – The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran said on Wednesday that since the 1970s, over 500,000 people have lost their lives annually due to sanctions, emphasizing: “The time has come for these inhumane sanctions, imposed by the United States and its allies, to be recognized as crimes against humanity.”
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X regarding the impact of sanctions on ordinary people worldwide and Western denial of this impact, wrote: “Western regimes have always claimed that sanctions are a bloodless alternative to war, but what is the reality? A recent study published in the reputable journal The Lancet shows that unilateral sanctions, especially those imposed by the United States, can be as deadly as war.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister also pointed out that the main victims of sanctions are mostly children and the elderly, and stressed that sanctioned countries must respond to this organized injustice in a coordinated, unified, and collective effort.
