Pars Today — The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, announcing the final specifications and the start of flight tests for the national aircraft “Simorgh”, reported that Iran has officially joined the group of countries that design and manufacture transport aircraft.
The Civil Aviation Organization stated that the national Simorgh project has entered the flight testing phase, and certain engine components are also in production.
This aircraft, the result of 15 years of effort by domestic experts at HESA, places Iran among the few countries capable of manufacturing passenger aircraft.
According to Mohammadreza Vaghefimanesh, Director General of the Aircraft Design Office at Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, the Simorgh is based on the Antonov-140 design but features a fully indigenous tail and fuselage. It can carry up to six tons of cargo over a distance of 3,900 kilometers. /Fars News Agency
