Nobel Peace Prize committee members oppose awarding it to Trump

Donald Trump has shown a strong interest in receiving the Nobel Peace Prize during both of his presidential terms, and his efforts have intensified in recent months. The U.S. President has publicly stated that a peace agreement he has been working on in Ukraine in recent weeks could be a key to winning the Nobel Peace Prize, but opposition from some committee members has complicated his path.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that at least three of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee have publicly criticized Donald Trump, making his chances of securing the necessary votes unclear. According to the newspaper, Trump’s campaign has included both public statements with world leaders and private consultations with Norway’s Finance Minister, Jens Stoltenberg. The Washington Post added that Trump holds a fatalistic view of his chances, acknowledging that the committee may never vote in his favor.
