Pars Today – A U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled that the federal government cannot deploy National Guard forces to Illinois.
According to the decision issued by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, Donald Trump’s administration does not have the authority to send National Guard troops to the state. The court also noted that, for now, National Guard forces will remain under federal control.
This ruling upholds an earlier lower court decision that had blocked the deployment of National Guard units in the Chicago area.
The court had stated that such an action could lead to internal unrest and further escalate tensions.
Previously, Trump had deployed National Guard forces to several Democrat-led cities, including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Portland, Oregon, under the pretext of combating crime.
However, local authorities accused him of exceeding his legal powers and have filed cases against him. / Mehr News Agency
