Israeli analyst: Israel cannot sustain long-term confrontation with Iran

Pars Today – A prominent Israeli analyst has criticized Tel Aviv's growing dependence on Washington, arguing that Israel no longer enjoys the strategic independence it once had and is unable to sustain a prolonged confrontation with Iran.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Amatzia Baram, a professor of strategy and Middle Eastern affairs at the University of Haifa, told the Israeli newspaper Maariv that Israel is facing not only military challenges but also deep strategic and political problems.

Baram said the most significant consequence of the war has been Israel's unprecedented dependence on the United States.

"In my opinion, everything we do against Iran today is determined by the United States. We have always been dependent on American power to some extent, but we have never reached this level of dependence before. We previously enjoyed a certain degree of strategic independence, but we have now lost it, and that is our current strategic reality."

He added that under the current circumstances, there is a risk that the United States could impose policies that align with Washington's interests but conflict with those of Tel Aviv.

Baram also acknowledged that Israel lacks the capacity to endure repeated and prolonged confrontations with Iran.

"Tel Aviv was not built for an exchange of attacks with Iran every few months. Neither the economy, nor Israeli society, nor even the air force has the capacity to sustain such a continuous confrontation."
