Pars Today – The President of Switzerland on Friday expressed disappointment regarding the chances of reaching a trade agreement with the United States during the current year (2025).

Karine Keller-Sutter, President of Switzerland, stated that it is not predictable whether an agreement with the U.S. government on trade tariffs can be achieved this year, adding that “it is impossible to foresee the outcome, and everything depends on U.S. President Donald Trump.”

Keller-Sutter also emphasized that negotiations with Washington are ongoing, noting that less than 10% of Switzerland’s exports are subject to U.S. tariffs.

In August, following a phone call with the Swiss president, Trump imposed a 39% tariff on Swiss imports, citing the U.S. trade deficit with Switzerland as the reason. The move prompted criticism within Switzerland, and Trump later claimed that Keller-Sutter had been unwilling to listen to his concerns about the U.S. trade deficit.

Since then, the Swiss government has been working to reach an agreement with Washington by proposing investment packages and measures aimed at reducing the trade imbalance.
