Hostile move by Australian parliament against IRGC
Pars Today – The Australian Parliament has passed legislation allowing the federal government to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “national terrorist” organization based on unfounded and baseless accusations.
In a hostile and provocative move, Australia’s Labor Party introduced the 2025 Criminal Code Amendment (Foreign State Terrorism Supporters) Bill, claiming that the IRGC “led at least two anti-Semitic attacks in Australia’s largest cities.” The amendments, which allow “foreign government entities as supporters of state terrorism” to be listed, were approved in the Australian Senate on Thursday without any changes.
Attorney General Michael Rowland, in a statement, accused the IRGC and said, “Our government’s top priority is the safety and protection of all Australians, which is why we acted decisively to pass this critical law through Parliament.”
The law follows a controversial press conference in August, where Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, alongside the head of the domestic intelligence agency and senior ministers, alleged—without providing evidence—that the IRGC orchestrated arson attacks on Continental Luis Kitchen in Sydney and the Adas Israel Synagogue in Melbourne.
