U.S. Senate approves end of federal government shutdown
Pars Today – The U.S. Senate approved a funding bill to end the longest federal government shutdown in the country’s history.
The Senate passed the bill to fund the federal government until the end of January with 60 votes in favor and 40 against. Hours earlier, U.S. media reported that after negotiations involving a trio of Democratic senators—Jeanne Shaheen, Angus King, and Maggie Hassan—with Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune and the White House, an agreement was reached to fund the federal government.
Following that, a vote was held in the Senate. According to this agreement, federal government funding will be secured until January 30 (10th of Bahman), ending the 40-day government shutdown. The Senate-approved measure must also pass the House of Representatives before being sent to the White House for U.S. President Donald Trump to sign. / IRNA
