Pakistan welcomes Tehran’s mediation proposal between Islamabad, Kabul
Pars Today – On Sunday, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Iran’s readiness to assist in easing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, stating that Pakistan has confidence in the important role of its friendly and brotherly neighbor, Iran, in helping resolve the current situation.
Simultaneous with the visit of Majid Takht-e Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, to Islamabad, Pakistan welcomed the recent proposal by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to provide any assistance in resolving remaining disputes between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban.
Mohammad Tahir Andarabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: “We welcome Tehran’s offer to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan and will not shy away from it.” Andarabi added: “Pakistan has confidence in the important role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in helping manage the current situation and appreciates it, as Iran is our brotherly and friendly country.”
The senior Pakistani diplomat stated that Pakistan has always supported finding peaceful solutions to issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
The English-language Pakistani newspaper Dawn also reported that Tehran is working toward organizing a regional meeting to mediate between Islamabad and Kabul.
