Pars Today – The United Nations has warned about the consequences of escalating rhetoric between Washington and Caracas, calling for restraint and a return to dialogue to prevent a regional crisis.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN, referring to the intensifying tensions over Washington’s claims of Venezuela’s involvement in drug trafficking, said the organization is closely monitoring the situation with serious concern.
Dujarric added that the increase in hostile rhetoric heightens the risk of regional instability in the Caribbean, and all countries must adhere to their obligations under the UN Charter.
The UN spokesperson emphasized that the Secretary-General urges member states to provide opportunities for dialogue. Meanwhile, the U.S., after alleging links between the Venezuelan government and drug trafficking, has designated Venezuela as a terrorist entity and increased its military presence in the region, an action that observers see as a potential precursor to an attack on Venezuela. /IRNA
