Lebanon: Signing a peace treaty with Israel unlikely

Pars Today — Lebanese Foreign Minister says the country is working to return to the “cease-fire agreement” with Israel, while stressing that signing a peace treaty with the regime is unlikely.
On Friday, Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajeh said that the meetings of the cease-fire monitoring committee do not mean Lebanon is engaged in direct negotiations with the Israeli regime, and he described the prospect of a formal peace treaty as out of reach. He emphasized that Lebanon’s goal is to revert to the 1949 Armistice Agreement with Israel.
Rajeh noted that while Israel continues to violate the cease-fire and, under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, carries out daily attacks on Lebanese territory, Beirut has intensified its diplomatic contacts in an effort to shield Lebanon and its infrastructure from any potential Israeli assault.
The foreign minister added that Lebanon has received warnings from certain Arab and international parties that Israel is preparing large-scale military operations against the country.
