Three IRGC members martyred by unknown assailants near Pakistan border

Unknown assailants have martyred three members of the Quds Force of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in southeastern Iran near the border with Pakistan.

According to Press TV, the IRGC Quds Force said in a statement on Tuesday that two vehicles carrying its personnel had come under attack by passengers of another car on a road in Nikshahr County of Sistan and Baluchestan Province at 16:00 local time (1330 GMT) earlier in the day.

It added that three IRGC members lost their lives and another one was wounded in the attack.

According to the statement, the identity of the assailants was under investigation.

It said two of the assailants were also killed in the ensuing clashes.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault so far.

Terrorists operating in neighboring countries, including Pakistan and Iraq, have repeatedly targeted Iranian military and security forces serving in border provinces.

Iranian police said in February that two border guards had been martyred in clashes with members of a terrorist group in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.
