Iran to continue advisory missions in Iraq, Syria: Official
Tehran will not give up its advisory support for Iraq and Syria until the full elimination of terror threats gripping the region, a senior Iranian official says.
According to Press TV, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim in Tehran on Sunday.
Iran “will keep up its advisory cooperation and assistance to the Iraqi and Syrian governments until the threat from terrorist groups in the region is completely eliminated,” Shamkhani said.
He further hailed the recent liberation of the Iraqi city of Fallujah by the army and allied volunteer fighters, saying the victory shows relying on “internal unity and domestic capacities serves as a successful and reliable experience in the process of fighting against terrorism, particularly the liberation operation of Mosul.”
Shamkhani further said the vigilance of Iraqi clerics and the proper policies adopted by the government helped thwart sectarian rifts and boosted the anti-terror struggles in the country.
For his part, Hakim provided a report on the latest developments in Iraq and hailed Iran’s support for his country in its fight against Daesh.
