Iran slams West’s stance on execution of 2018 Ahvaz mass terrorist attack mastermind
Tehran has condemned the interventionist position of certain European states on the execution of the ringleader of a terrorist group responsible for a series of terrorist operations in Iran, saying such an approach will promote terrorism all over the world.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan'ani issued the condemnation in a statement on Sunday, a day after some European countries, including Sweden, denounced the execution of Habib Farajollah Chaab, also known as Habib Asyud, the Swedish-backed mastermind of the 2018 Ahvaz terrorist attack that martyred 25 Iranians.
“It is regrettable that some European countries, instead of confronting the terrorists who target the lives of innocent people are openly proud of their crimes, support them in an unjustifiable manner which is contrary to the basic principles of human rights,” he said.
Kan'ani further noted that Chaab, the ringleader of the Harkat al-Nazal terror outfit, had a long list of carrying out incidents of violence, terrorism, and killings of innocent men, women and children.
He also clarified that such support by the West for terrorists will not only prevent the execution of justice but will actually "encourage" and "promote" the sinister phenomenon of terrorism all over the world.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that the Islamic Republic is determined to confront terrorism and uphold justice, adding that it will not compromise on the rights of Iranians and their security.
The official further said, “If the Europeans do not have a serious will to distance themselves from terrorism and its various forms, at least they should not intensify the suffering of the victims' families with their support for terrorists.”
Chaab pleaded guilty and confessed last year to masterminding the 2018 atrocity as well as many other acts of terror targeting the Iranian nation.
The Swedish-backed terrorist was arrested in November 2020 on the back of a set of “specialized and combined measures” by Iranian intelligence forces.
