  • US complicit in daily crimes of Israel: Kan'ani

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan'ani has condemned the fatal shooting of a Palestinian toddler in the occupied West Bank, saying the United States is also complicit in the daily crimes of Israel due to its constant support for the occupying regime.

According to Press TV, he made the remarks in a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, a day after two-and-a-half-year-old Mohammad Haytham Tamimi succumbed to the critical wounds he received a few days earlier from shots by Israeli soldiers.

“Mohammad Haytham Tamimi, a two-year-old child, is the 28th innocent Palestinian child who has been killed at the hands of the child-killing Israeli regime. The supporting role of the regime's sponsors in continuing these daily crimes is also to blame from a legal and international perspective,” the spokesman wrote.

Mohammad was shot in the head in the village of Nabi Salah, near Ramallah, by Israeli soldiers on Thursday, when he and his father, Haytam Tamimi, were in their parked car outside their home.

He suffered critical injuries in the head while his father received chest injuries. They were taken to a hospital, where the Palestinian toddler remained on life support until he was pronounced dead on Monday morning.

Nabi Salah village has long been in the spotlight for its anti-Israeli rallies in the West Bank. As a result, it has been under heightened pressure by Israeli forces that regularly carry out raids in the area.

Israeli forces launch raids on various cities of the occupied West Bank on an almost daily basis under the pretext of detaining what is called “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to violent confrontations with residents.

Kan'ani further noted that the coincidence of this horrifying crime with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comments at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) regarding efforts to integrate Israel into the region as well as its annual aid and support is tantamount to Washington’s complicity in the occupying regime’s daily crimes.

A total of 28 children have been shot dead by Israeli soldiers since the beginning of the year, including seven in the Gaza Strip, according to a report by the official Palestinian Wafa news agency.
