A glance at history: Bombing of Iranian and Vietnamese cities
Pars Today – These are the days the people of Iran and Vietnam are commemorating what was later called the “War of Cities”, since both the countries saw the devastating aerial attacks on urban centers and civilian populations – the Vietnamese during the late 1960s and early 1970s and the Iranians during the 1980s.
The first event indicates the start of the bombing of Iranian cities during the 8-year US imposed war by Saddam of Baghdad’s repressive Ba’th minority regime.
In March 1985, the term “War of the Cities” was brazenly coined by Saddam himself to describe his barbaric targeting of Iranian civilian centers.
Due to the Ba’thist regime’s strategic failure in the war, Saddam’s forces brutally targeted the civilian areas.
The second event is the start of the intense bombing by the US regime during its military aggression on Vietnam.
The US invaded Vietnam in August 1964, and by the 2nd of March, 1965, aerial bombardment started.
During the 20 years of its aggression, the US murdered more than 2 million civilians and a million more of Vietnamese soldiers were killed.
