Pars Today - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday night (1 April 2024) announced in a statement that 7 Iranian military advisors defending regional security were martyred in an Israeli regime missile attack on the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus.

The IRGC strongly condemned this terrorist crime and extended congratulations and condolences on the martyrdom of these esteemed martyrs to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and announced that in the missile attack by Zionist regime fighter jets on the consular section of the embassy in Damascus, the distinguished "Defenders of the Shrine", Brigadier General Mohammadreza Zahedi and Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Hajirahimi, two veterans of the Sacred Defense era who fought the Ba'athists, and were currently senior military advisors in Syria, along with 5 other officers accompanying them, attained martyrdom.

In reaction to the brutal terrorist attack, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan'ani, announced on Monday night that Tehran will decide on the type of response and punishment for the aggressor.

Following this terrorist attack, the Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad, also had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian at the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Meqdad described the Israeli attack on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus as a "flagrant violation of international regulations, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."

In this phone call, Amir-Abdollahian forthrightly condemned this terrorist attack and stated that the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lost his mental balance due to failure of his military campaign and debacle in Gaza.

The United Nations Security Council is slated to hold an extraordinary session on Tuesday, to discuss the Israeli regime's airstrike. Earlier, Iran's representative at the United Nations had requested an urgent Security Council meeting, stating that: "Iran reserves its legitimate and inherent right to respond decisively to such an act of terrorism, within the bounds of international laws and the UN Charter."

Several countries, including Syria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Kuwait, and Pakistan, have condemned this terrorist attack. Additionally, an official at the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which houses the US interests section in Iran, was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry this morning.

According to the Iranian Foreign Minister's statement, the dimensions of the terrorist attack and the crimes of the Israeli regime were explained to the Swiss diplomat when he was summoned, with emphasis placed on responsibilities of the US government.

Amirabdollahian emphasized on social media platform X that an important message was sent to the US government as a supporter of the Zionist regime and that America should be held accountable.

In recent years, the fake Israeli regime has repeatedly attacked various areas in Syria with America's full backing and support. These attacks have intensified in recent months, especially after 7 October last year, when a new wave of Zionist regime crimes and atrocities started in Gaza.

Some Iranian military advisors, under the IRGC Quds Force, are present in Syria to help maintain security in the West Asia region, provide advisory services, and assist Syrian military forces in combating terrorism, especially against terrorist groups like Daesh, at the official invitation and request of the Syrian government.
