Pars Today - The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Maritime Exercise IMEX 2024 kicked off with the participation of a number of navies of the Indian Ocean littoral states hosted by the navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajeddini, the spokesman of IMEX 2024 announced the start of the wargame. According to Pars Today, quoting from IRNA, Tajeddini said on Saturday, "This exercise is being held with the message of 'Peace, Friendship, Cooperation and Collective Participation' on the axis of the military and law enforcement forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the participation of Russia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Qatar and Bangladesh with the motto of 'Together for the Safe and Secure Indian Ocean'."

Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajeddini informed of planning for specialized exercises by the participating units while setting out for the sea and said, "The frigates and units participating in the IONS joint maritime drill, after reaching the determined boundary, will put into action different scenarios including fire control, search and rescue operation and control of oil slick."

The maritime drill of the Indian Ocean littoral states has begun since 208 with the initiative of the Indian navy and the aim of expansion of naval cooperation in order to confront non-classical and organized security challenges.
