Monitoring development of Khaf-Herat railway
In other news, a high-level delegation from Iran traveled to Afghanistan on Sunday to assess transit capacities, particularly the development of the Khaf-Herat railway line, and to expand transportation and infrastructure cooperation, boost trade, and address transit barriers. One of the key objectives of this delegation is to evaluate the challenges and capacities of the Khaf-Herat railway line and the Mahirud-Farah rout.
Abdollah Arjaei, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, explained the goals of this visit: “According to regulations, Iran’s annual transit volume must increase to 40 million tons, which cannot be achieved without adequate attention to our neighbors and the completion of east-west and north-south corridors.” Arjaei added: “Afghanistan needs to connect with Europe and gain access to open waters, and the Islamic Republic of Iran can use this opportunity to create favorable conditions for generating revenue for the country.”
