Pars Today - Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations’ office in Vienna read a statement announcing the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) at the 68th International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPOS) of the United Nations on the issue of the Zionist regime's military aggression against IRIB’s buildings.

According to Pars Today citing the IRIB news agency, the statement, which was read by Seyyed Reza Najafi stated that these attacks, in addition to targeting civilian infrastructure, also targeted telecommunications facilities and equipment that are used for peaceful purposes.

In this context, we can mention the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), which was deliberately targeted on June 16, 2025.

The IRIB uses satellite telecommunications infrastructure and technologies solely for peaceful purposes and has essential services such as public information, education, and cultural programs on its agenda.

These civilian functions are fully in line with the COPUS, which seeks to preserve satellite communications space for beneficial and peaceful purposes. Basically, under international humanitarian law, civilian infrastructure such as the IRIB must be protected, especially in situations of armed conflict.

The deliberate attack by the Zionist regime on such facilities is a serious violation of these principles and violates internationally accepted norms in the field of international humanitarian law as well as the peaceful uses of space, and is strongly condemned.
