Iran: We support Qatar’s right to self-defense
Pars Today – Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns aggression and terrorist attacks against the government of Qatar. He affirmed that Iran resolutely supports Qatar’s right to lawful self-defense under international law and the UN Charter in response to such blatant violations.
According to Pars Today, Amir Saeed Iravani emphasized in his statement on Thursday at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council: “We once again reaffirm the principled and unwavering position of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, rooted in its charter and reinforced through successive resolutions of its summits and foreign ministers’ meetings—a stance that firmly rejects any aggression against the sovereignty and security of its member states.”
Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN added that the latest expression of this stance is the resolution adopted at the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers on June 22, 2025, in Istanbul. The resolution strongly and unequivocally condemned the armed attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran and called on the Security Council to urgently address this serious threat to international peace and security, taking decisive measures under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to compel the Israeli regime to immediately halt its aggressions.
Iravani also emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly and unequivocally condemns the terrorist aggression and armed attacks by the Israeli regime against the government of Qatar, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of Palestinian and Qatari civilians, and affirms its solidarity and support with the government of Qatar.
The Iranian ambassador and permanent representative to the UN further emphasized that the Islamic Republic resolutely supports Qatar’s right to lawful self-defense under international law and the UN Charter in response to such blatant violations. He affirmed Qatar’s right to take all necessary political, diplomatic, and legal measures to protect its citizens, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, describing the Israeli regime’s military aggression against Qatar as a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.
Iravani further stated that the ongoing genocide by the Israeli regime in occupied Palestine, its repeated aggressive and terrorist actions against Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, its criminal attack on Iran, and now its military assault on Qatar demonstrate that this regime constitutes an immediate and real threat to regional and international peace and security.
Iran’s permanent representative to the UN added that on June 13, the Israeli regime, with full support from the United States and using American weapons, launched a 12-day large-scale war against the Islamic Republic that was not provoked, targeting civilian infrastructure and Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards. Despite three emergency meetings, the Security Council was paralyzed due to the U.S.’s unconditional support and took no action. This failure has emboldened the rogue Israeli regime to continue its crimes across the region with impunity.
Iran’s senior diplomat stated that it is regrettable that the UN Security Council, by neglecting its duties, has effectively contributed to the normalization of the Israeli regime’s crimes in Gaza and its criminal aggressions in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and now Qatar.
Iravani further reminded the officials present at the session that the criminal prime minister of the Israeli regime has openly threatened other countries in the region with aggression and has explicitly declared that Israel will strike wherever Hamas political leaders are present. He warned that if the UN Security Council does not take action today, another country will inevitably be added to Israel’s list of aggressions, and the regime will once again carry out its acts of aggression with complete impunity.
Iran’s permanent representative to the UN stated that the Security Council’s failure to act at this critical juncture amounts to a profound neglect of its responsibilities and a betrayal of the principles on which the United Nations was founded. He added that inaction will only embolden the aggressor, undermine international law, and send a dangerous message of impunity across the world.
