Pars Today – Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team, like its freestyle squad, clinched an early championship title at the World Championships in Croatia.
The Greco-Roman world championships, hosted in Zagreb, Croatia, are still underway, and with the final day (Sunday) yet to come, Iran’s team has already secured the title.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team secured gold medals on the second day of the World Championships through Amin Mirzazadeh in the 130 kg category and Gholamreza Farrokhi in the 82 kg category. Peyman Ahmadi also earned a silver medal in the 55 kg division.
The competitions are still ongoing, with Mohammad Hadi Saravi poised to win another gold for Iran in Greco-Roman wrestling. Daniyal Sohrabi also advanced to the classification round after defeating his opponent by technical superiority.
In the preliminary rounds of the final three weight categories, three Iranian wrestlers progressed to the semifinals.
Earlier, Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team in Zagreb had claimed the world championship title with one day remaining in the competition, earning 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, totaling 145 points. This marks the first time that Iran’s freestyle and Greco-Roman teams have simultaneously won world titles.
Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team first won the world championship at the 2014 World Championships in Uzbekistan, and this year they secured the title for the second time.
