Pars Today – The Spanish Foreign Minister emphasized that Madrid will respond to any action by the Israeli regime against the international Freedom Fleet en route to Gaza.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoting Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares in a statement, said that Madrid provides diplomatic and consular support to all members of the Freedom Fleet. According to Pars Today, referring to the peaceful and humanitarian nature of this initiative, which was launched from Barcelona, the minister stated: “Spain will respond to any action that violates free passage, freedom of expression, and international law.”

Albares also called on the Spanish ambassador in Tunisia to investigate all aspects of the recent drone attack by the Israeli regime on ships of the international Freedom Fleet in Tunisian waters.

Earlier, Spain, along with 16 other countries, issued a joint statement expressing concern for the safety and well-being of the fleet’s members, urging that Israel refrain from any unlawful or violent actions against them. The statement emphasized that violations of international law, including attacks on ships in international waters or their illegal seizure, carry accountability.

On Monday, the Spanish Foreign Minister also stated that since May 2024, when Spain, Ireland, and Norway recognized the State of Palestine, a real wave of countries taking similar steps began. He added that now a large number of countries support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as a solution to end the ongoing conflict.

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, also stated that the humanitarian aid fleet poses no threat to the security of any party and that Israel has no right to obstruct it in international waters.

In this context, the International Committee for the Break the Gaza Siege initiative emphasized that public and international solidarity is the only leverage to protect the passengers of the Freedom Flotilla, declaring: “Let the Israeli apartheid regime understand that the world is watching.”
