Pars Today – The Iranian President in a phone conversation with the French President on Wednesday said that it is not Iran that must prove its sincerity and build trust, but rather the United States and Europe that must earn the trust of the Islamic Republic by demonstrating their honesty.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a telephone conversation with Emmanuel Macron, President of France, responded to his French counterpart’s remarks about negotiations with the United States. Referring to the history of Tehran’s talks with Washington, he said:“Iran has repeatedly declared that, based on the fatwa of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution as well as its own security and defense doctrine, it is by no means seeking to obtain nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, however, we continue to witness that, due to a biased insistence, Iran is being subjected to growing pressure and sanctions on the false pretext of attempting to build nuclear weapons.”
Pezeshkian stated:“The fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is that where misunderstandings can be resolved through logic and dialogue, resorting to force and threats not only fails to solve problems, but also deepens divisions and disputes.”
The Iranian president added:“The Islamic Republic has always welcomed dialogue and engagement, but today it is the other side that must, as a confidence-building measure, respect the rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran and refrain from imposing its excessive demands.”
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, in turn, thanked the Iranian president for taking practical steps to remove certain obstacles and for adhering to agreements reached in previous meetings.
The French president went on to say that he would work to create a new framework for negotiations aimed at reaching a clear outcome between Iran and Western countries. He stressed that it is essential for interactions and talks to continue in the direction of transparency and confidence-building so that an agreement can be reached—lifting sanctions and improving and expanding mutual relations.
