Iran clinch Asian Futsal Championship title for 14th time
Pars Today — Iran’s national futsal team claimed the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup title after a memorable and dramatic final.
According to Pars Today, the final of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup was held between Iran and host nation Indonesia. In the end, Iran defeated their opponents in a penalty shootout to secure their 14th Asian championship.
In the first half, Iran took the lead through Hossein Tayebi, but Indonesia responded strongly, scoring three goals. Shocked by the turnaround, head coach Vahid Shamsaei’s men pushed hard to get back into the game and managed to pull one goal back through Mehdi Karimi.
The first half eventually ended with the hosts leading 3–2.
In the second half, Iran equalized right at the start through a goal by Saeid Ahmadabbasi. Just seconds later, however, Indonesia regained the lead after capitalizing on a defensive mistake by Iran.
With three minutes remaining, Iran switched to a power-play strategy and quickly found the equalizer once again through Karimi. Regulation time eventually ended in a 4–4 draw, sending the match into extra time.
Neither side managed to score in the first period of extra time, but in the second period, Indonesian players took advantage of another lapse in Iran’s defense to go ahead. Iran responded shortly afterward, with Salar Aghapour scoring the equalizer to level the match once more and force a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Iran prevailed 5–4 over Indonesia to claim the Asian title.
