Pars Today – The Deputy for Legal and International Affairs of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the approval of a law banning the import of goods from Zionist settlements in Ireland as a commendable step and emphasized: Now it is the turn of Western claimants of international law to implement the very rules they claim to champion.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy for Legal and International Affairs of Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, wrote on X in response to Ireland's decision to pass a law banning the import of goods from settlements of the Israeli regime: "Announcing Ireland's decision to pass a law banning the import of goods from the illegal settlements of the Zionist regime is a commendable step in transforming respect for international law from rhetoric to action."

Gharibabadi, noting that the International Court of Justice in its advisory opinion in 2004 had stated that the establishment of these settlements constitutes a violation of international law, emphasized: "According to this opinion, states are obligated not to recognize the illegal situation and not to assist in its maintenance. Therefore, buying and selling settlement products is not an ordinary transaction, but rather economic complicity in the continuation of occupation and the whitewashing of an illegal situation."

He further stated: "Now it is the turn of other governments, especially Western claimants of international law, to implement the very rules they claim to champion, instead of retreating in the face of pressure from the Israeli Zionist regime, some American legislators, and trade lobbies."

The Irish government has approved a draft law banning the import of goods from Zionist settlements. Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee said in this regard: "Dublin will also work at the EU level to adopt a stricter stance against Israeli settlements." According to her, a comprehensive EU-wide ban on trade in goods with illegal settlements would be the strongest response to Israel's actions.
