Pars Today – Following London’s unjustified move to place the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the scope of its Counter-State Threats legislation, the British ambassador to Tehran was summoned once again to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that, following the British government’s decision to include the IRGC under the country’s state threats legislation, Hugo Shorter, the British ambassador to Tehran, was summoned on Wednesday by Alireza Yousefi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for Western Europe at Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, Iran’s strong objection to a hostile move was formally conveyed to the British envoy.
At the summons meeting, Iran’s Director General for Western Europe strongly criticized what he described as inappropriate remarks by the UK interior minister in the British Parliament against the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that making baseless allegations against the IRGC was an irresponsible action and contrary to Britain’s international obligations and the fundamental principles governing relations between states.
He added that these “baseless claims” come at a time when Britain has long served as a refuge for leaders and members of anti-Iran terrorist groups and networks.
Referring to the IRGC’s central role in defending the country’s territorial integrity and national security, as well as combating terrorism, the Iranian official stressed that any hostile legislation targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran or labeling components of its state institutions would be met with a “firm and reciprocal response” from Iran.
