How Iranian drones penetrate America’s defensive layers

Pars Today – In an analysis of how Iranian drones have managed to bypass the multiple layers of U.S. air defenses in the region, Al Jazeera wrote that the deaths and injuries of American troops in Jordan could alter the course of the conflict.

According to Pars Today, citing Mehr News Agency, Al Jazeera reported that Iran’s announcement of a missile strike on a U.S. military base in Jordan—later confirmed by Washington, which acknowledged that several American servicemen had been killed and wounded—has raised serious questions about the ability of the United States’ advanced air-defense systems to intercept Iranian missiles and drones.

Brigadier General Elias Hanna, a military and strategic analyst, examined the significance of the development, arguing that the successful arrival of Iranian projectiles at their targets demonstrates that no defensive network, regardless of how sophisticated it may be, can provide complete protection.

Hanna noted that Iranian missiles had previously struck targets in the occupied territories despite Israel’s deployment of advanced air-defense systems such as the Iron Dome and the Arrow missile-defense systems. He argued that the presence of systems like THAAD and Patriot at U.S. bases across the region does not necessarily prevent some missiles and drones from penetrating defenses and reaching their targets.

In his analysis, Hanna described the current developments as marking a new phase in the exchange of pressure between Washington and Tehran. He explained that the United States has based its strategy on intensifying maritime restrictions and increasing economic pressure on Iran, while Iran’s response has followed two parallel tracks:

Disrupting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, with potential consequences for the global economy and regional countries.

Expanding the geographical scope of its attacks, as reflected by strikes reaching Jordanian territory.
