Iranian FM underlines unconditional global fight against terrorism

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that all the world states are required to contribute to international efforts to annihilate the terrorist groups without any precondition.

"We believe that the entire world should fight against terrorism without any condition," Zarif told reporters in Tehran on Sunday on the sidelines of a joint forum of the Iranian military attaches in other states and the country's defense and police officials.

Elaborating on the recent visit by EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini to Tehran, he said that during her meetings, the Iranian officials underlined the necessity for fight against terrorism.

Noting that Mogherini had come to Iran to exchange views, and not negotiate, on Syria, he said that the Iranian officials have briefed her about the country's views on the way of attaining a political solution, which should be based on trusting and respecting the Syrian people's demand.

Zarif underscored that Tehran will in future discuss with the Europeans other wrong policies that they had adopted in the past (in addition to the mistake they have made in the fight against terrorism, including using double standards).

Iranian foreign minister and visiting EU's Mogherini in their second meeting in Tehran on Saturday underlined the need for fight against the terrorist groups and the urgency to resolve the Syrian crisis, specially dispatch of humanitarian aid to war-stricken nation.

The EU foreign policy chief held two rounds of talks with the Iranian foreign minister in Tehran on Saturday.

During the talks, Zarif welcomed the positive role the European Union plays in overcoming the Syrian crisis, and expressed Iran's readiness to have closer cooperation with the body.

Mogherini arrived in Tehran on Friday night to hold talks with the Iranian officials on regional issues, the question of Syria in particular.

EU foreign policy chief also met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday.
