Indian Ambassador to Iran, Saurabh Kumar, announced that New Delhi is trying to further boost banking cooperation with Tehran.

"India is holding negotiations with the Iranian officials to develop relations in investment fields and banking cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Kumar said in a meeting with governor-general of the host country's Isfahan Province, Mohsen Mehralizadeh, in the central city of Isfahan on Sunday.

Noting that India has recently inaugurated an office of its Chamber of Commerce in Iran, he said that New Delhi is studying ways to further broaden economic and banking cooperation with Tehran.

"The Indian government is highly interested in the development of cooperation with Iran," Kumar added.

In relevant remarks in May, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined the need for the removal of obstacles in the way of Tehran-New Delhi cooperation in the banking sector.
