  • Foreign statesmen, intellectuals hail Iran’s huge Revolution rallies

The Pakistani daily “The Nation” said on its website that millions of Iranians Sunday took to the streets nationwide to mark the 39th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

It said: People from all walks of life rally in different cities and towns across Iran each year to celebrate the nation’s victory that put an end to the monarchical rule of the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

Each year on the 22nd of the month of Bahman on the Iranian calendar (11th of February), Iranians turn out to renew their allegiance to the Islamic establishment and the Late Imam Khomeini, the Father of the Islamic Revolution.

It quoted Liaqat Baloch, Secretary General of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami, as saying: “The Islamic Revolution is a role model for the entire Muslim world and its success lies in the sincerity of the Iranian people.”

He said the Islamic Revolution is the outcome of the struggle of the late Imam Khomeini against the western powers. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader went on to say that affection of the Iranian nation with Islam is another reason for the success of the Islamic Revolution.

He added: The Islamic Revolution is flourishing in Iran despite all conspiracies.

Meanwhile, in Baghdad, Ammar al-Hakim, the leader of Iraq's National Wisdom Movement, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the Islamic Revolution has kept alive the cause of Islam’s former qibla, Bayt al-Moqaddas.

He noted the deep impact of Iran's Revolution on the international, Islamic and regional levels as well as its resistance against hegemonic powers.

Ammar al-Hakim also hailed the Late Imam Khomeini's endeavours for confronting the bullying of hegemonic powers.

The 10-day period from the Imam Khomeini's return on February 1, 1979, until the revolution’s victory on February 11 is celebrated in Iran annually as the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn).

In related news, Iraq's Grand Sunni Mufti, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi as-Sumaidaie, praised Iran's status in the region and the world. He said Iran is the biggest supporter of Palestine and Palestinians.

As-Sumaidaie said that in spite of the sanctions imposed by the US and the attempts of arrogant powers to interfere in Iran's internal affairs, the Islamic Republic has taken major strides in the path of development.

In the meantime, reports from the Baltic city of Riga said: Vladimir Galchkin, head of Latvia-Iran Friendship Association said the Islamic Revolution introduced a new model of government to the world.

He said Islamic Revolution generated by Imam Khomeini was the most important event of the 20th Century, which was as a determining element in international equations.

According to an IRNA report from the US, Gerald Horne, professor of history at the Houston University, Texas, said the fall of the Shah, who was a supporter of the oppressive powers, like the Apartheid regime of South Africa, was an important opportunity for the oppressed people of Africa.

He said, after the overthrow of the Shah, there was the shift with regards to the new government in Tehran in terms of cutting off petroleum supplies to South Africa, which paved the way for the ultimate demise of the apartheid regime.

Horne added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has checked the designs of US imperialism and Zionism that might otherwise have been directed to support oppressive regimes.

He said: “I think the Iranian people did the world a favour when they overthrew the bloody Shah because his oppressive policies were not only against Iranians but worldwide.”

In a report from Belgrade, Serbian orientalist Rade Bojovi described the Islamic Revolution as an example of cohesion, unity and solidarity between the people and the establishment, saying: “Despite obstacles set up in the path of the revolution, it has had numerous achievements inside and outside the country.

Noting that the world has understood Iran's political power and admires Tehran's peaceful policies in the settlement of issues through dialogue, Bojovic said: “As far as I know, 40 elections have so far been held in Iran after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and this reveals that the nation decide its fate independently.”

Meanwhile, in Beirut, Lebanon’s State Minister for Presidency Affairs, Pierre Raffoul, who is a Christian, said the Islamic Revolution in Iran has strengthened the country in all fields.

He added: Since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran is considered a major country, strong in political, economic and military fields.

Raffoul added: “The country has always been standing by oppressed people. Even when the dark shadow of terrorism has fallen on the region, Iran has supported people of the region.
