Local residents in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah have staged rallies in support of the Syrian government and censured the US-backed Kurdish militants’ siege of government-controlled areas in the Kurdish-majority city of Qamishli and the provincial capital.

Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Wednesday that the residents of Qamishli and Hasakah protested against the unjust blockade by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which has prevented the entry of food to the cities and caused major disruption in transportation.

Students have also been denied access to their schools as a result of the siege, which has been in place for two weeks.

Expressing support for the government in Damascus, the protesters in the city of Hasakah called on provincial officials and local authorities to stand against the Washington-backed SDF, which has been trying “to implement the agenda of its operators to continue stealing and plundering the country’s wealth.”

The participants in the protest in Qamishli also denounced the “inhuman practices” by the SDF against civilians and the imposition of the siege on the local residents.

SANA said the US-backed Kurdish militants opened fire on protesters in Hasakah in an attempt to disperse them, with no reports on possible casualties.

Syrian people have repeatedly demonstrated against the looting and smuggling of oil by the US-backed and Kurdish-led militants in the country’s north and east.

The SDF, a US-backed alliance of Kurdish militants operating against Damascus, currently controls areas in northern and eastern Syria.

The Syrian government has condemned any agreement inked to plunder the country’s natural resources, including Syrian oil and gas, with the sponsorship of the administration of former US president Donald Trump.

The ex-US president acknowledged several times that American military forces were in Syria for the West Asian country’s oil.
